I'm 27 years old, about to get married and looking to enlist as Active Duty in either the Army or the Air Force. I've already done a year of college and I would really like to get training in a media-related career field and I see that the military does have such training programs.
However, there is one aspect of being in the military that does concern and frighten me...
Now, I've been talking to a few women who are ex and current military and they tell me nothing like this has ever happenned to them. One woman told me she had a problem with a NCO harrassing her but after she reported him he stopped.
Not that I believe what I see in the news, but these are just two of MANY articles and stories of women being harrassed and assaulted just because they are women in uniform. Please understand something: I'm proud of my country and I really want to go through with joining up, but having been where these woman are once before I'd rather die than have to go through that again.
I don't trust my recruiter to give me a straight answer on this issue, so I'm asking for information straight from the source.
I don't want to live in fear, but I just can't handle going through it again.
what, if anything, can you guys tell me about being attacked by fellow soldiers?
