I'm heading to boot camp for the Navy in 15 days. Does anyone have any advice for being successful? Also, once I'm in A school I'm going to try to get into the sta 21 program and get commissioned. Do you know anything about the program or have any advice for getting commissioned? I will be either an FC or ET, going into boot as an E3, and I have an AA degree. Thanks!!!

Female military portraits for the CD cover [16 Feb 2009|12:51pm]
scribblesncolor

My name is Clayton Owens. I write songs as a hobby. I am currently days away from releasing a Country CD. The title track is “Sons and Daughters’. It is a song in support of our troops. You can see a video/slide show of the song on my MySpace music page, www.myspace.com/scribblesncolor or I could send you a MP3. I am in dire need of female soldiers’ portraits for the CD jackets (I need 6 more to finish the jacket design to get the CD out). The portraits I am looking for are the ones usually taken in boot-camp, but any head shot with flag in back ground would work great. I plan on having alternating male/female military portraits over a black and white flag. I could send the CD jacket design for you to consider further. In return for the use of the portraits I will send a couple of CDs.

If you are not interested but know of someone who might be, could you please forward this message to them.

Thanks for any help you can provide and for your military service.

If you have any questions, comments, or a portrait to send, send to scribblesncolor@comcast.net .

New Year, Fresh Start [02 Jan 2009|08:25pm]

Hello everyone.

I'm 27 years old, about to get married and looking to enlist as Active Duty in either the Army or the Air Force. I've already done a year of college and I would really like to get training in a media-related career field and I see that the military does have such training programs.

However, there is one aspect of being in the military that does concern and frighten me...

Hi guys, my name is Celia and I'm really interested in joining the ADF. My only concern like the woman a few posts before me is the acceptable weight range. Except that my BMI is under and I need to gain about 4-5kg. I weight around 48kg and have to be 52kg or over. Since I already eat like a pig it's not a matter of just eating more, I've never been on a diet in my life. Does anyone know types of food you can eat that increase your weight in a healthy way? Without resorting to doughnuts and pizza.

Is it a big deal being a bit under, I am physically fit, I'm use to doing a bit of heavy lifting at my part-time job and have been involved with a few martial arts so I am quite familiar with endurance and push-ups. I feel I'd cope with the physical demands of training and the job just as well as the next person.

Any suggestions?

My name is Samantha, and I'm an 18 year old high school Senior, now trying to map out the rest of my life. I've been considering the Army for a long time, but a series of issues have always led me to believe that maybe the armed forces aren't for me. Recently I've revisited the idea, and I'm finding that I'm getting kind of excited about the possibilities being offered. Guidance councilors and recruiters tend to give me the text book answers, and I'd really like to hear from some one who has been there. I'll stick all this under a cut to keep from spamming journals.

Hey Yall, I'm a new member and I'm going into boot camp on May 7th.  I also went from 185 lbs -ish, to 135 lbs and I'm still hoping to lose more weight before then.  I'm only 5'2" so I'm still heavy.

My Navy Job is AO (Aviation Ordnance) which is very exciting for me, and I'm going into the Buddy Program with my twin sister.

Also I did Colorguard/Winterguard, Marching Band, and Weightlifting back in I was in HS.  I graduated in 05.
I love to read expectually Romance/Romantic Supsence like Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb and ect.

So Hey, and does anyone want to talk. :)

I have thought about joining the Army off and on for about a year now. The main reason for me not just doing it is becuase I can't seem to lose the weight to enlist. After having my son, I can't drop a pound. I'm only 5'3, and 221 pounds, (uck I know). I have tried and tried and tried to lose the weight but I can't seem to do it. The weight requirment me for me join the Army is 133 pounds for the max. weight. That leaves me with 88 pounds to lose.

Is there anyone else that actucally lost a good ammount of weight to join? Or shouldI just give up on joining the Military and try for a civilian lifestyle. (Well my husband is active Army.)

Hello, all! I just wanted to take a moment to introduce and tell you a little about myself. I'm Mindy, a 24yo Military Police Army Reservist from Missouri. I've been in for about 5.5 years and have loved every single second of it. In weighing my choices for a career, however, I've found that the Coast Guard fits more of my needs, and as such I am currently in the application process for Coast Guard OCS with the hopes of spending the next twenty years in CG aviation.

Just in case I can't get into aviation, though, of course I have a strong educational background to support me in whatever job the Coast Guard sees fit to assign me... I have a BS in Criminology from Missouri State U and will be relocating to the east coast this fall to begin pursuit of my MA in Government with a Homeland Security concentration at Johns Hopkins. I'd like to commission into the Reserve component of the CG initially, then transfer to active duty after completion of my graduate degree.

I'd love to chat with some Coastie ladies, especially officers, if there are any out there. The more info I can get to help me prepare now, the better!

Thanks,
~Mindy

Hello, ladies! I had a few (random) questions and couldn't really find the proper place to ask them, so I was hoping that you'd be able to help me out (whether in answering them or being able to point me somewhere that can). I'm currently attending college and will be going into a Nursing program in the fall (August '07). I plan on getting my BSN in Nursing and then...I'm not really sure. It's always been a sort of dream of mine to be a Navy Nurse and as such, I've been doing a lot of research on it lately.

Now, I have questions regarding the different plans that help cover tuition, but I figure I'll probably need to talk to a recruiter for details on all that. I guess my real question for you all is: if I were to join the Navy as an Officer after I finished with my degree, what sort of training is required? I mean like, if you Enlist, you go to bootcamp. But if you enter as an Officer....what exactly do you do? I've heard two different things (OIS and OCS) and I'm not sure which is right, if either of them is. And what exactly is the difference between normal boot camp and whatever training I would have to do?

And really, if you have any information about being a Nurse in the Navy (and an Officer), please feel free to share. I just like to gather information so that I can make more informed decisions later down the road.

Thanks in advance, everyone!

*Stockings For Troops* [25 Nov 2006|04:33am]

nennerfree
Hello everyone,
My cousin, Cpl. Kelly Williams, just got back from Iraq with the Marines, but her husband and a bunch of close friends are still out there. For Christmas, my cousin Emily and I are making stockings for the 22 members of her platoon.
Here are some of the things we plan to include:
* Cookies
* Candy
* Hand-painted miniature picture frames
* Books and puzzles (Sudoku, Mad Libs, joke books, word searches, etc)
* Stationery and supplies to write home
* Individualized letters from 3rd graders
* Sanitary products
* And a bunch of other miscellaneous toys and games to help pass the time
* Holiday movies, such as The Santa Clause, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, A Charlie Brown Christmas, A Christmas Story, etc.

However, it has taken much more money than we anticipated and my funds are just about out. I really don't want to abandon the idea, so I am hoping that anyone who reads this may have a few extra dollars. It doesn't have to be much, but anything, even $1, would help!

If you can't, I completely understand. But if you can spare a little extra let me know!
You can e-mail me at nennerfree@aol.com with any questions.
I also have a Paypal account set up if you would prefer to do it that way. I think all you need is my e-mail address, which again, is nennerfree@aol.com

Thank you in advance to any who can help!

Sincerely,
Jenna Porter

Well girls, It's finally happening. I had my surgery last week, (a cyst in my neck, nothing major) And even though the date I'll be leaving pensacola is more than a month after I graduated, I'm getting to keep my orders and go to the USS Nimitz. I'm so relieved! I was sooo scared that I'd lose my orders..... Although now I'm nervous about spending the next three years and some months on an aircraft carrier. Any advice on that one???
